Each step answers a different question
A document presents identity information and identifying elements. Biometrics compare a person’s characteristics within a verification context. Liveness adds a check concerning the person’s presence during capture. These functions complement each other but are not interchangeable terms.
A photograph submitted on its own does not describe a complete KYC journey. Configuration, required steps and the process result matter too. Completing liveness does not mean every necessary check has been approved.
Plan the experience and unresolved cases
Explain why identification is requested and how to complete the step. Prepare for low image quality, unsupported documents, interruption and review needs. A clear process avoids treating every technical difficulty as suspected fraud.
In the system receiving results, distinguish intermediate steps, pending cases and final decisions. Account release or contracting should follow your risk policy rather than an inference based on the person closing a screen.
Protect data from the design stage
Biometric data linked to a person is sensitive under the Brazilian ANPD’s guidance. Assess purpose, access and handling with the teams responsible for data protection.
Operationally, limit copies, avoid sharing captures in open conversations and decide who can assess pending cases. Additional collection needs a clear purpose rather than merely increasing the number of files.
Explore KYC or request a KYC demonstration. The technical documentation explains result tracking and the distinction between identification and business decisions.
